		<description><![CDATA[What puts you off attending a yoga class? I&#8217;m feeling tired and slightly emotional as I walk into class. I&#8217;m not sure why I decided to attend a power class, I think that it was the only one that worked with my schedule. Clutching my mat, I walk through the sea of crammed mats with ultra keen yogi&#8217;s sitting in meditation, doing some pre-stretches or attempting to walk on their hands. Yes, there&#8217;s a guy trying to walk on his hands. I think of leaving, but for some reason or another I convince myself to stay. I&#8217;ve taught yoga for almost 3-years now and I&#8217;ve been practicing for 10 years. But I have to admit that there are times I walk into class and feel completely intimidated, vulnerable, out of place and un-safe. 10-minutes into the class I wish I had never come. I&#8217;m tempted to walk out. Looking back, I wish I had because as least I would have been listening to my body, and that&#8217;s what I tell my yoga students to do. When I think of this experience, it makes me really feel for those who want to try yoga but feel too intimidated, scared and unsure of the practice. I hear people say that they are too overweight, out of shape or not flexible enough for yoga. Well that&#8217;s like saying that you are too dirty to take a bath. Yoga can be for anybody. It just takes an open-mind, a suitable teacher and a commitment to your practice and your body. An Open-Mind You can do yoga, even with a broken-leg. Ok, so you might have to skip out on the standing poses, but you can sit (or lie down) and focus on your breath. There. You are doing yoga. Sitting and focusing on your breathing ain&#8217;t easy! Work on the focusing part. Find the rhythm of your breath. Allow it to fill your body with life. Do this everyday for 5 &#8211; 10 minutes. Go to a class and sit the whole way through, focusing on  your breath as everyone around you flows through the poses. It&#8217;s not easy but it&#8217;s still yoga. A Suitable Teacher If you are working with limitations, find a teacher with whom you feel comfortable discussing your limitations/challenges with. They should be able to offer modifications for you, ensuring that your safety comes first. Finding this teacher may take trial and error, be persistant but make sure not to hurt yourself in the process. Often the biggest teacher is our bodies. When the body says NO, listen. Commitment You won&#8217;t be able to do each and every yoga pose perfectly by the end of your first class and that is perfectly ok. There will be some poses that you may never master and that is ok too. However, make the commitment to your yoga practice if you wish to see results. Even if you are just sitting breathing for 10-minutes per day, make the commitment. Also, make the commitment to your body. This means listening to it very carefuly. If your body does not feel good in a particular pose, then don&#8217;t do the pose. This is where that suitable teacher comes in. Ask them for a modification or an alternative pose. Just because you have a tough time with one or all yoga poses, doesn&#8217;t mean that you can&#8217;t do yoga. &#160; With an open-mind, a suitable teacher and the commitment to your practice and your body, you might be able to move from the modied pose to the one you were having difficulty with. But if that never happens, that&#8217;s ok. You are still practicing yoga. &#160; n.]]></description>

		<description><![CDATA[I was in Wholefoods the other day, searching for a granola that didn&#8217;t contain any refined sugar, just natural sugars. There were lots of choices but they were all SO expensive. As most of you know, I am Scottish, therefore cheap. After reading some of the ingredients, I thought to myself &#8220;wait a minute, I have a bunch of this stuff at home, I bet I could make my own!&#8221; So I did. 2.5 cups of rolled oats 1 cup of almonds 1 cup of walnuts 1 cup of pumpkin seeds 1 cup of sunflower seeds 0.5 cups of unsweetened shredded coconut 3 tablespoons of ground cinnimon 1 cup of dried cranberries 1 cup of dried raisins 1 tablespoon of grated ginger 1 tablespoon of pure vanilla 1 cup of melted coconut oil 1 &#8211; 2 cups of organic pure maple syrup or honey (use more or less depending on how sweet you want this) Feel free to add anything else that you might have in your pantry &#8211; pecans, sesame seeds, dried apricots, dates, nutmeg, etc. Get creative!! &#160; Preheat the oven to 350 degrees.  Mix the oats, almonds, pumpkin seeds, sunflower seeds, walnuts, shredded coconut, cranberries, raisins and cinnimon in a bowl.  Mix the coconut oil, ginger, vanilla and maple syrup in a seperate bowl. Then mix these bowls together making sure to cover all of the dry mixture with the wet mixture. Spread the mixture evenly over 2 cookie sheets or baking trays and place in the oven. After 10 minutes, take the trays out of the oven and give them a mix. Place back in the oven. Repeat this two more times. The granola should brown and become crunch. After about 30-minutes, check the mixture and assess whether or not it needs more time. When you are happy with your mixture take it out of the oven and leave it to cool down. Then store in tupperware or jars. Enjoy with milk (cows, almond, soy, rice), yogurt, banana, berries, apples, honey, or on it&#8217;s own. **Gift Idea** Make jars of granola as gifts for friends! n. &#160;]]></description>

		<description><![CDATA[rekindle your relationship with food Most people have a love-hate relationship with food. You love to eat, but hate how it affects your body. Whether it&#8217;s allergies, weight gain or anxiety &#38; depression, there are many reasons we abuse our bodies by over eating or under eating. So how do you rekindle that &#8216;love&#8217;, where food becomes nourishment and fuel and makes you feel good about yourself? Mindfulness. Think about the following before you eat: What are you about to put into your body and is it going to benefit you? Are you really hungry or are you eating just to distract yourself from something? What is the environment around you right now as you eat? What is your state of mind? Are you eating at your desk while working, or are you eating alone, silently and peacefully. How do you eat? Are you about to wolf it down? Or chew thoroughly? Where did your food come from? Was it sourced ethically? Give thanks to the process that brought the food from the pasture to your plate. &#160; Do the following while you eat: Chew Slowly Taste Smell Breathe Enjoy When almost full, stop. &#160; Think about the following after you eat: How do you feel? Is your heart beating fast? Do you feel energized or fatigued? Would you eat it again? What would you change or do differently? &#160; Answering these questions will help reinstate your intuition. After time and with experience, you will understand more about why you crave and/or eat certain foods. You will also begin to realize what your body likes and dislikes. Before you know it, your relationship with food will consist of only &#8216;love&#8216;. n.]]></description>
